Trailblazing ballerina Michaela Mabinty DePrince dies at 29



In an announcement made on her Instagram page, a representative said Ballet was the world of Michaela Mabinty DePrince, who died at age 29. The cause of death has not been reported yet.

“Her life was one defined by grace, purpose, and strength,” the caption said. “Her unwavering commitment to her art, her humanitarian efforts and the courage that helped her to overcome unimaginable challenges will live on forever in us. In spite of everything, she stood as a beacon of hope for many showing that beauty and greatness can emerge even from the darkest places.

Following the announcement of DePrince’s demise, her family released a statement.

“I am truly in a state of shock and deep sadness. My beautiful sister is no longer here,” Mia DePrince wrote. “From the very beginning of our story back in Africa, sleeping on a shared mat in the orphanage, Michaela (Mabinty) and I used to make up our own musical theater plays and act them out. We created our own ballets … When we got adopted, our parents quickly poured into our dreams and arose the beautiful, gracefully strong ballerina that so many of you knew her as today. She was an inspiration.”

NYC Mayor Eric Adams indicted on 5 federal public corruption charges, including bribery and wire fraud

    New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted on five federal charges related to bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy and soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals, according to a 57-page indictment unsealed Thursday morning. The indictment alleges illegal actions stretching back to 2014, from when he was Brooklyn Borough president. “For nearly a decade, Adams sought and accepted improper valuable benefits, such as luxury international travel, including from wealthy foreign businesspeople and at least one Turkish government official seeking to gain influence over him,” the indictment reads. Specifically, Adams received luxury travel and other benefits from a Turkish official and later in exchange pressured the NYC Fire Department to open a Turkish consular building without a fire inspection, the indictment says. Service tracker Downdetector first registered a huge spike starting at 10:00 a.m. ET, with many customers saying on X and Threads that they’re having issues placing phone calls. There doesn’t appear to be an early culprit to the outage from this morning, but Verizon engineers are actively looking to the issue.
